Database and Japanese society

The implication of a database in the society is somewhat different in Japan from that in US or European countries. In Japan, there exist less databases for public use in administration or academia. The administrators of the government or of the organizations rarely use the databases for their decision making. The development of databases is not properly appreciated in the society. These facts may be representing some characteristics of Japanese society.

In this talk, I would like to present my view on the database and society.
